Do It For The Right Reason
I have been guilty of looking at all the side projects I’ve done over the years as a way to make money. What I mean by this is that I’ve looked at what I need to do which will give me a return on my time investment. So what’s wrong with that?
Well, if the motivator is just the money, then when the money does not appear the motivation will stall. Let’s remember that this is natural, it’s the same if you do a job and don’t feel like you are being paid the right amount for the work you are doing.
Now this is why when you look to people who are paid to take photos as their many source of income, it’s not been an easy road for them because at some point they had to make a decision to put the passion of ‘what’s the worst that could happen’ aside for the business suviral voice in their head.
So for the next 3 months let’s just pick up a camera and do it for the passion of taking great photographes. Yeah let’s have a price list for prints and bookings but for every event or early start, go out with the aim of improving your skills and get excited about what you can do with your camera. Spend time breaking down the set up of the image, tell a story of how, what and why led to the finished photograph. Build that passion for your photography and let it beam out of you for all to see and feel so that the more you share your amazing talents the less explaining you will have to do because your voice will be within your photographs.
Make sure that what ever you are looking to do in 2017, that you keep focus of the important, need to do, areas which will keep the project moving forward and the passion alive so you can move outside your comfort zone.
