Do What You Love!

With 2016 drawing to a close and we look at all the amazing people who have passed away these last 12 months, it’s important to not take each day for granted.

For the last 10 years I have always had a side project. This has ranged from setting up different types of websites to doing a bit of game creation work. These side projects were there to help me make a bit of extra money on the side and hopefully move into a full time income. I could list hundreds of reasons why these never took off in the way I wanted, in a way that made me a full time income, but all the reasons I could give you have one common denominator – me.

The great news is that each of the side projects I took on showed me that I could learn anything I put my mind to. It also helped with learning in social media, web design, basic coding, ecommance and problem solving. All these skills are now being used to focus my mind on my photography, which has always had a role in each side project, but now it’s about spending most of my time doing what I love and not over complicating the basics.

I would spend months in front of a computer putting together something and not getting out there and meeting real people. Networking is so important, even from a social point of view if not the business side of things. Find people and surround yourself with like minded people who share a passion for what you love doing. Family and friends will always be kind but kindness will only let you grow so far.

We don’t have all the time in the world, you have to start today and build something that will be important to you in 5 years time. We all only have 24 hours in each day but we all do different things with them 24 hours. Some like to sleep for 12 hours a day, while others sleep just 4 hours. Now I’m no health expert but I do believe in listening to your body and looking after it. So you have to do what works for you, but could you swap 1 hour a day of watching TV or looking at Facebook for 1 hour of working on your side project, even if it’s more of a hobby than a business plan for the future?

Use your time wisely. Look after your body and mind, don’t neglect loved ones, spend time with people who have a positive impact on your life and do what you love!

Have a great 2017.
